BAILEY, SHAWNEE AND GRANT

McGraw Historic Park –  Just off Hwy 285 in Bailey: buildings from the 1800s, foot trail across a historic iron bridge.

Shawnee – National Historic District town: 1900s retreat for wealthy travelers on the narrow gauge railroad from Denver.

Guanella Pass – National Historic Byway of ranches, forests, and stream landscapes. Watch for Rocky Mountain sheep near Grant

Kenosha Pass – Sweeping vistas of South Park. Moose are often seen at the pond near the summit.

JEFFERSON / COMO

Tarryall National Rural Historic District – 44-mile stretch of family ranches, streams, rocky buttes, lakes, craggy mountains.

Cline Ranch – 1920s mission–style house at the entry to Cline Ranch State Wildlife Area, a birding destination.

Como – 1880 train depot, stone roundhouse, and narrow-gauge train; a historic hotel now a bed & breakfast; two schoolhouses,  and cemetery. A National Register of Historic Places treasure.

Boreas Pass  – Continental Divide dirt road along the historic Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad route. At the 11,000 foot summit, you’ll see where rail workers kept the train line working.

ALMA

Hoosier Pass – Once a buffalo trail, this pass spans the Continental Divide and offers scenic hiking trails and wildlife glimpses.

Montgomery Reservoir – A deep lake covers one of the first mining towns in Colorado; a 1930 mill and waterfall marks the Middle Fork headwaters of the South Platte River.

Windy Ridge – Take this 4×4 road from Paris Mill past ghost towns and mining sites to one of the largest Bristlecone Pines in the U.S.

Paris Mill – An 1894 gold and silver mill surrounded by streams, forest and cliffs. Construction underway; do not go inside.

FAIRPLAY

South Park City – This museum of buildings rescued from mining camps and ghost towns features over 60,000 1880s artifacts.

HARTSEL

Buffalo Peaks Ranch – Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and now home to the Rocky Mountain Land Library.

Trout Creek Pass – Zebulon Pike likely traveled this pass during his 1806 Louisiana Purchase mapping expedition.

GUFFEY

Current Creek Pass – Open range with mountain backdrop. Look for antelope or bison herds along this very scenic highway.

LAKE GEORGE

Midland Train Tunnels – Three historic tunnels, just off CR96 in Eleven Mile Canyon outside of Lake George.

Wilkerson Pass – Spectacular vistas of the South Park on US24: Visitor center and short hiking trail to inspirational views.

Snair Cabin – Completely furnished 1870s cabin located in the Community Park in Lake George.
